On Tuesday, April 25th Alex and Dad went to see the Iowa Cubs play an afternoon game. We took the city bus from West Des Moines (4th and Elm) to Downtown (6th and Walnut). We got downtown at about 10:50 and walked to Principal Park. We got to the ballpark at about 11:00 and explored the stadium. We watched the pitchers warmup and the grounds crew chalk the field. We went and got hotdogs and cokes and sat in our seat behind home plate.
One of the workers came up to us and asked Alex if he wanted to be the "Cub Cadet Kid of the Day". I asked what that meant and they said Alex gets to ride in a Cub Cadet SUV from right field all the way to the plate and then throw out the first pitch. I said sure and we waited until about 15 minutes before the game. Alex went to right field with Mike Donohoe and they drove the Cub Cadet to home plate while they announced his name. Once he reached home plate he got out of the vehicle and got to play catch with one of the I-Cubs. Then he got to throw out the first pitch! He wound up and threw it about two thirds of the way to the plate. He was way excited.
We then sat back in our seats and watched the game. Alex watched for 7 innngs and the Cubs won. Galeghar was the pitcher and he just got called up to Chicago a week ago. We rode the bus home and Alex fell asleep.
The best part was we got to come home and show Mom and Casey the pictures and videos and tell them about it. What a day!
